ST. IRENAEUS: 5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
St. Irenaeus of Lyons was one of the greatest minds of the Early Church, if not the greatest. You can find basically all of the Church's essential doctrines in sapling form in his writings. His writings are critical for defending the Church's teachings on the Eucharist, the Virgin Mother, the canon of Scripture, and more.
Here are the FIVE key things you need to know about St. Irenaeus, starting with Mary being the New Eve.

PROVING THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY: PART TWO, THE ASSUMPTION OF MOSES
In part one of this 4-part series, we saw the descriptions of Enoch and Elijah's assumptions in both the New and the Old Testaments.
Elijah's Assumption into Heaven is confirmed in the New Testament at the Transfiguration, where we see Moses and Elijah with Christ in Heaven. The story of Elijah's assumption into Heaven riding on a fiery chariot (2 Kings 2) is well-known, but what about Moses' assumption?

THE FIRST PROPHESY IN HUMAN HISTORY
What is the very first prophesy in human history? What or who is it about? As you might imagine, it's probably be pretty important.
This single verse, Genesis 3:15, is called the "Proto-evangelium," which means "First Gospel." This one verse is the first mention of the Gospel in Scripture, and it occurs right after the Fall of Adam and Eve. Not only that, it's an encapsulation -- the "seed" -- of the entire Gospel. There is a summary of the Gospel hidden right here in this short verse. This means that God knew His plan to redeem all mankind from the very beginning, and said so.
Not only does Gen 3:15 contain prophesies of Christ, it also provides three distinct prophesies of the Blessed Virgin Mary that every Catholic should know.

THE HIDDEN THRONE OF ISRAEL & THE BLESSED MOTHER
King Solomon had a problem. He had "700 wives, princesses, and 300 concubines" (1 Kings 11:3). When the king has 1000 -- one thousand -- women in his life, who rules as the queen? Also, if Jesus is the New King of Israel, who is the New Queen? The Kingdom of Heaven was the restoration and fulfillment of the Kingdom of Israel, so who is the Queen of Heaven?

THE ANTI-MARY: THE TERRIFYING NEW PATRONESS OF ABORTION
By far the most popular post of the year was this somewhat frightening article I wrote:
Hurricane Harvey brought attention to a non-profit dedicated to raising funds for abortion: The Lilith Fund. But who is this Lilith? Despite her dark origins, she has become an Icon of Feminism and now the Patroness of Abortion. Check out her connection to Adam and Eve from Jewish folklore. Also, find out why an alliance with Lilith is both terrifying and illuminating.
