The Immutability of God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and You

I have been working on a new, hopefully easier to understand, translation of St. Louis de Montfort's True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. This has been asked of me from multiple different, independent directions. It's weird. Very Holy Spirit-like, too. 

I thought I would share with you a few paragraphs of True Devotion that I was just working on. Still some of the earlier paragraphs, unfortunately. I have a long way to go.

This might be a new way for you to understand your relationship with God ... through Mary. 

Now, I have already translated St. Louis de Montfort's Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. This has brought great riches to my life. Becoming a servant of Mary has changed everything. It's hard to overstate Mary's impact.

True Devotion on the Unchanging Nature of God 

But here they are. As you think of these, think of the unchanging-ness of God. God's immutability, this is one of the attributes of God. 

21. Now look closely at the rest of the life of Jesus Christ. We see that He chose to begin His miracles through Mary. Jesus sanctified St. John the Baptist in the womb of his mother, Saint Elizabeth. Jesus did this by the word of Mary. As soon as Mary spoke, John was sanctified. This is Jesus’ first and greatest miracle of grace. Again, at Mary’s humble prayer, Jesus changed water into wine at the wedding in Cana. This is Jesus’ first miracle of nature. As Jesus began and continued His miracles through Mary, He will continue them until the end of time through Mary.

22. God the Holy Spirit is barren in God. That is to say, the Holy Spirit produced no other divine person. However, the Holy Spirit became fruitful through Mary, His spouse. It is with her, in her, and from her, that He produced His masterpiece: God-made-Man. And the Holy Spirit continues to produce Him every day. The Holy Spirit will continue to produce Him, the Mystical Body of Christ, until the end of the world. Jesus is the adorable Head of the Mystical Body of Christ, and we are its members. The more the Holy Spirit finds Mary, His dear and indissoluble Spouse, in a soul, the more active and powerful the Holy Spirit can be in that soul. The Holy Spirit is more able to produce Jesus Christ in that soul, and that soul in Jesus Christ ... 

24. The same way we see the three Persons of the Most Holy Trinity act in the Incarnation and the first coming of Jesus Christ, They maintain every day. The Trinity continues in this way, in an invisible way, in the holy Church. They will continue to move in this way until the end of time, to the final coming of Jesus Christ.

Maybe take a second to read these three paragraphs again, too. That last one speaks to the unchanging nature of God. 

I'll summarize these paragraphs: 

• The Holy Spirit brought Jesus into the world through Mary. 
• The first miracles of Jesus came through Mary. 
• The Holy Spirit distributes all His graces to the world through Mary. 
• The Holy Spirit continues to bring the Body of Christ, all of us, into the world through Mary.  
• The Holy Spirit produces in us in proportion to the amount of Mary He finds in us.
• At the end of time, as in the beginning, Jesus will come to us again through Mary.    

God does not change. God is unchanging. Change implies a lack of perfection. There is no imperfection in God. There is, therefore, no change in God. 

God came into the world through Mary at the Incarnation. This playbook isn't going to change. Mary will always play a prominent role in God's plans. 

Now, think about God's unchanging nature as He relates to YOU. 

God's Unchanging Nature and YOU

I was going around the table this morning at our men's group -- an Exodus 90 men's group. I know these men really well. We've been through many years together. 

I noticed how one of the men in particular seems to always encounter a particular kind of persecution. Multiple times in his life, he has been persecuted for putting God first. Then, out of this persecution, comes remarkable conversions. 

This turn my thoughts to the immutability, the unchanging nature of God. 

God will ALWAYS use this man in this way. So expect it. Anticipate it. Prepare for it. 

This is the way God has chosen to enter into this man's life. God's not going to change. But we better. And if we do, God will be able to work great wonders in our lives, just as He did with Mary. 

So how has God's unchanging nature revealed Itself in YOUR life?   

• Do you always find yourself in similar circumstances? 
• Do the same kind of people continue finding their way into your life?  
• Has a similar situation occurred through the generations of your family?
• Does your name have meaning that resounds in your life?

These situations might be sinful or graceful in nature. Either way, they are telling you something about your relationship with God. 

Reflect and pray on these things, then ask Mary to guide you to her Son.
